Triusco

In the local dialect, Triusco refers to a red wine that is 'exceptional, full-bodied, and mouthfilling.' It is a wine that personifies the happy fusion of characteristics that the primitivo grape displays in the two areas of south-east Apulia where it is widespread. The first is the sun-drenched Salento plain that faces the Ionian Sea and the calcareous-sandy soils of Sava and Manduria that enable the primitivo to achieve great structure and remarkable distinctiveness. The second stretches over the hills of the central Murgia in the Gioia del Colle area, where the altitude, the somewhat continental-type climate, and the more nutrient-poor, rocky soils give to the primitivo greater elegance.

I Vitigni

Triusco

Primitivo, Puglia I.G.T.

GROWING AREA
The Primitivo di Manduria and the Primitivo di Gioia del Colle areas.

GRAPE VARIETIES
60% Primitivo di Manduria and 40% Primitivo di Gioia del Colle.

VINEYARDS
Old head-trained or vertically trellised vineyards planted in calcareous-sandy soils at altitudes of 40-50 metres (Manduria), and in rocky, hillside terrains at 300-350 metres (Gioia del Colle). Yields average 50-60 q/h.

VINIFICATION
The harvest period varies from the last week in August (Manduria) to mid-September (Gioia del Colle). The two wines are fermented separately in steel then macerated about 10 days, with frequent pumpovers.

MATURATION
After several months in fibreglass-lined vats, the two wines are blended and go to new French oak, where they remain for 6-8 months. The wine is filtered before bottling, but not cold-stabilised, and then given 6 months' bottle-ageing before release.

TECHNICAL DATA
Alcohol 14%; total acidity 6.00 g/l; pH 3.45; residual sugar 2.5 g/l; total S02 80 mg/l.

TASTING NOTES
Intense purple in colour; rich nose with aromas of black berry fruit such as blackcurrant and blackberry, over spicy hints of toasted almond; very full-bodied but smooth on the palate, with heady, alcoholic warmth and flavours of dried plum, chocolate, and blackcurrant.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS
Triusco's sensory richness makes it ideal for decisively-flavoured, rich dishes, such as red meat, game, and full-flavoured cheeses. Serve at cool room temperature.

STORING
Stored correctly, it will mature beautifully in the bottle for 5-6 years.
