Starting 1 April, Rivera will directly manage distribution of its own wines in the Italian market.

In the enchanting scenery of Cortina in the heart of Dolomiti mountains, Rivera wines will be under the spotlight at the prestigious event VinoVip 2011.

VinoVip is the biannual event organized by Civiltà del Bere wine magazine that brings together the elité of Italian wine industry in a 2 days of conferences, debates and wine tasting that peak in the famous Eagles Wine Tasting at Faloria mountain hut (2.123 mt.).

On August 24th the first grapes of Chardonnay have been picked at Rivera

Where follows a brief report on growing season and beginning of the harvest.

In northern Apulia growing season has been particularly slow due to relatively cool weather that lasted till mid June. July temperatures has been average (32-35 °C) with no heat waves, while the first half of August has seen northern winds keeping clear skies and cooler temperatures. The harvest of Chardonnay and Sauvingon grapes has therefore started on August 24, some 10-12 days later than usual with grapes of perfect quality and analytical datas.

We are however just at the beginning as in Castel del Monte area harvest time is very long due to our indigenous late ripening red grape varieties, such as Nero di Troia that is traditionally harvested in the second half of October.

This is a prestigious achievement for those wineries like Rivera, which have been working for many years with the aim of producing quality wines that represent and embody the territory and the indigenous varietals of Castel del Monte area.

We are pleased to inform you that, as a result, the following among our most relevant wines - which are part of the history of Castel del Monte appellation - will directly benefit from this endorsement and will be soon adorned with the most emblazoned of the appellations:

• Puer Apuliae, Castel del Monte Nero di Troia Riserva Docg
• Il Falcone, Castel del Monte Rosso Riserva Docg
• Pungirosa, Castel del Monte Bombino Nero Docg

Special attention goes to our Pungirosa, which is, at the present, the only Bombino Nero DOC Castel del Monte produced according to the rules of the new discipline and consequently will be the first one to be released under the new D.O.C.G..

As per tradition as a founding member of Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia (Apulian Wine Tourism Association), Rivera will open the doors of its cellar with guided tours and tastings to the visitors that will participate to Benvenuta Vendemmia day on Sunday 19th Sebtember . On the green just outside the winery a traditional food fair will be organized. For further informations, www.mtvpuglia.it

In the early morning of 12 August, the 60^th vintage of Rivera winery has begun with the picking of Chardonnay and Sauvignon grapes.

The months that preceded and that brought to the development of the vines and to the ripening of the grapes have been a positive prelude to what announces to be a great vintage: May and June have been relatively cool and rainy, while July and August sunny, dry and never too hot.

Winemaking will carefully aim to exploit the great quality fo the grapes.

Within the promotional programme organized for its members by Istituto Grandi Marchi, Rivera has participated with its wines to the tastings and events that have been held in Munich on September 16th in the prestigious headquarters of Hypovereinsbank in the city centre.
